Second Chances by Trey

December 25, 2019, I arrived at Shiloh House, freshly released from prison, not knowing what the future would hold. I was afraid because I was venturing into uncharted territory. As I entered the house, I was approached by a very friendly and familiar presence. Having been a trainer in the Puppies for Parole Program for the last three years, I was overcome with joy upon meeting Job.

My stress and fear were quickly forgotten because of this amazing dog who wanted to know who I was. I instantly fell in love. I have had the opportunity to work with many dogs, but on occasion, a special one will come along and reopen parts of your heart that years of addiction have closed off or hardened. Job has not only made me a better trainer, but he has made me a better person. The book of Job is all about suffering. It is the portrayal of one man’s anguish, the ineffective responses of his friends and his struggle for faith and understanding. The book of Job mirrors our own experiences in this world. This is so true of Job the dog and the key role he plays here at in2Action. Not only does he provide daily therapeutic support, but he also provides us with a living example of change through his own story. As a stray he was riddled with homelessness, abuse, and neglect. His journey to the life he leads today is a perfect example of how through a relationship with Christ and the amazing opportunities provided by this program, anyone, even a dog, can be offered a second chance at
a productive life.

So, without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce Job. “Hello everyone, my name is Job. I am an eighteen-month-old Staffordshire Terrier, and boy, let me tell you, my life has been pawsome since becoming the house dog at Shiloh! The guys are great! My life now is far better than it used to be. I get to go to the dog park. I get snacks. I am learning how to do agility. I get snacks. The guys take me on daily walks, car rides and did I mention I get snacks!? I even help teach a puppy class with BackyardK9. My best friend Daisey lives right up the street in Daisy’s House! How cool is it that they named a house after her? Not only is my life so much better now, I get to help the guys better their lives as well! I am grateful for second chances!”
Sincerely,
Job
